The North American Waterfowl Management Plan

Wetlands, shorelines, grasslands and forests provide critical habitat for a variety of waterfowl and other wildlife. Wetlands provide many benefits to Albertans, including reduced soil erosion and improved water quality. However, human activities have caused wetlands and waterfowl populations to decline. To return waterfowl populations back to the numbers seen on average during the 1970s, Canada, the United States and Mexico have joined together in a conservation effort - the North American Waterfowl Management Plan - that will re-establish wetlands and waterfowl populations for the benefit of North Americans for generations to come.
